Struggling With Life

Dear Cassie,
Everything seems so dark. I understand why Leslie did it, but it doesn't give anybody hope. It shows that fame and fortune are not happiness. It proves that life is not worth it. Just a struggle. I myself am struggling in my own world. Like Leslie, I have my own isolation, my own doubts that an answer will never come. That it is no use trying. Trying is a struggle and not worth it. I myself am contemplating taking my own life away. I just see no benefit in myself and for the rest of the world around me. I've seen the world enough and have grown tired of the places and faces. People are the inspiration for living but it is people who are the reason why I would like to leave it. I'm too fragile for this world and it's about time I stop this headache.
Christian, Toronto, Canada

Dear Christian,
Please do not do anything to hurt yourself, because there is hope and ending your life is not the solution. Everyone is a unique person with his or her own wonderful qualities that add to the fabric of life, and it would be a terrible thing if you were to take yours away before the world has had a chance to see them. And you have yet to see the beauty of the world, which is now hidden behind your struggles, but it does exist and you need someone to help you see it.

The fact that you are writing to me indicates your awareness of issues that need resolution, and this is the first step to helping yourself. If you are a student, go to your school's medical services immediately and ask them to refer you to a professional counselor who can talk with you, or call one of the following numbers in your area and they will help you. The calls are anonymous, and I urge you to contact them as soon as possible.
